Hotel with a heated pool in the Verdon Gorge

Hotels often have the biggest pools, and sometimes an indoor pool in the spa as well. In the Verdon Gorge, you swim in warm water at a few hotels in Moustiers and in villas on the Valensole plateau. For now, only one place of this type meets my criteria in the Verdon Gorge: Les Restanques de Moustiers.

The pool. 7 x 7 m heated outdoor pool with panoramic views, and a Nordic bath heated to 37 °C, according to Provenceweb.

The hot tub. Nordic bath heated to 37 °C.

Guests confirm the pool is heated and find it big enough for everyone staying. Another finds it less pleasant for lingering in.

Guide's tip. The Nordic bath lets you stay in the water longer when the air turns cool: ask about its opening hours.

Fancy hot water? The hot tubs

These places don't have a confirmed heated pool, but they do have a hot tub: the water is hot all year round. A good way to relax in the warm.

The hot tub. The property page advertises a seasonal outdoor pool, closed from 18 October to 31 March, without specifying the heating. Travellers mention a jacuzzi and a covered pool in the spa.

Guests enjoy the jacuzzi and the spa. Information about the covered pool varies from one source to another.

Guide's tip. Ask the hotel to specify what is covered and heated in the spa before you book.

How I check

The word "heated" on a booking page isn't enough. Every place must have a rating of at least 8/10 (or 4/5) and carries one of these four levels.

Confirmed by guests

Guests mention the heated water in their reviews, with the season when they say so.

Confirmed by a reviewer

A journalist or guide who stayed there describes the heated pool.

Advertised only

The hotel or the platform says so, but I haven't yet found a review that confirms it.

Indoor pool

Heating isn't specified, but the water is sheltered from the wind and cold air. Ask for the temperature before you book.

Places I left out

I left these out because guests report water colder than advertised, or because no heating or indoor pool is mentioned.
