Hotel with a heated pool in Saturnia

Hotels often have the biggest pools, and sometimes an indoor pool in the spa as well. In Saturnia, it's the spring itself that heats the pool, with a faint whiff of sulphur. Here are the 2 hotels I've selected in Saturnia, all rated at least 8/10; I particularly recommend Hotel Saturno Fonte Pura and Terme di Saturnia Natural Spa & Golf Resort.

The pool. Outdoor pools fed by the hotel's private spring, at around 37 °C, plus a hot tub using the same water.

The hot tub. Thermal-water hot tub.

The Oyster guide says the water keeps its natural temperature, so you can swim year-round. On HotelsCombined, one guest enjoyed this guests-only thermal pool; another mentions the smell of sulphur.

Guide's tip. Depending on the season, insects can be a nuisance by the pool: bring repellent.

The pool. Large outdoor pool of sulphurous thermal water, which gushes out at a constant 37.5 °C and naturally renews itself within a few hours.

A Stylist journalist who spent three days there describes water at 37.5 °C and a deeply relaxing swim. On Expedia, guests find the thermal pool fantastic; some warn that the smell of sulphur takes you by surprise when you arrive.

Guide's tip. Take off your jewellery before swimming: the sulphurous water can tarnish it.

These places don't have a confirmed heated pool, but they do have a hot tub: the water is hot all year round. A good way to relax in the warm.

How I check

The word "heated" on a booking page isn't enough. Every place must have a rating of at least 8/10 (or 4/5) and carries one of these four levels.

Confirmed by guests

Guests mention the heated water in their reviews, with the season when they say so.

Confirmed by a reviewer

A journalist or guide who stayed there describes the heated pool.

Advertised only

The hotel or the platform says so, but I haven't yet found a review that confirms it.

Indoor pool

Heating isn't specified, but the water is sheltered from the wind and cold air. Ask for the temperature before you book.

Places I left out

I left these out because guests report water colder than advertised, or because no heating or indoor pool is mentioned.
